SUMMARY:A.C.E. Monthly Meeting - May '10
LOCATION:Portland Country Club\, Rt 88\, Falmouth Maine
DESCRIPTION:https://www.consultexpertise.com/event-101091\n\n\nLeadership Lessons I Learned from Ted Turner\nWith Special Guest Bill Burke\, author of Call Me Ted\n\nPlease join us for this fascinating\, candid and humorous presentation. \n Bill Burke\, the Mainer who helped Ted Turner write his New York Times bestselling autobiography\, will share the valuable leadership lessons he learned from Mr. Turner.\n Burke graduated from Harvard Business School and was hired by the Turner Entertainment Group\, where he developed the cable network Turner Classic Movies\, and was promoted to president of TBS\, all before he turned 30. \n But he set aside that high powered career\, and moved to Maine to raise his family. It was here he penned a 20-page reflection paper entitled “Leadership Lessons I Learned from Ted Turner\,” in hopes of submitting it to a business magazine. \n Instead\, on a whim\, he sent it to his former boss. Within an hour\, Turner called. “I didn’t know you could write. I want you to write my biography.”\n Over three years\, Burke ranch-hopped with Turner across North and South America\, and spoke with Turner’s closest colleagues\, competitors and associates including Hank Aaron\, Bill Gates\, and even his ex-wife\, Jane Fonda. \n “Call Me Ted” was published and immediately became a New York Times Best Seller thanks to its candor and compelling insight into the man who dropped out of college and turned his father’s billboard company into a global media empire\, all while dealing with personal and professional dilemmas. \n Bill Burke will share his own personal story\, and discuss what we can all learn about leadership from Ted Turner. \n He has graciously agreed to sign copies of his book after his presentation. People can bring their own copies of the book and there will also be some for purchase.\n \n\nThe A.C.E. regular meeting has networking\, a buffet breakfast and a speaker.
