“Before You Speak: Saving the World From Tedium, One Speaker at a Time”

TELL ME A STORY…

Throughout history stories have been used to teach, persuade, entertain and communicate.

Stories can be powerful communication tools in any business.

As consultants, we all make presentations. Some of us stand in front of group audiences, all of us present to individual clients and prospects. We want to provide information, to persuade, and sometimes even want to entertain. Do our messages stick? Do we always tap our listeners’ passion? Do we always grab hold of people? Do we help them listen and go away with something valuable to them? How do we get people to “lean in” when we’re speaking?

Award winning comedy writer/director Tim Ferrell has over 20 years experience in corporate and entertainment consulting. From salespeople to CEO's, from corporate trainers to teachers, Before You Speak creates customized plans of action that takes people step by step from preparation to delivery. Tim has been in front of audiences professionally since high school. He went right from college to off-Broadway, where he discovered his comic side.

After performing as a comic in clubs all over NYC, Tim started teaching workshops in both stand-up and Improvisational Comedy. Some of his better-known students include Jon Stewart, Chris Rock and Ray Romano. Tim also did some writing for Comedy Central’s “Alan Havey Show” and Nickelodeon’s “You can’t do that on TV.”

He has been teaching in Maine for a number of years now, running workshops out of Portland’s Comedy Connection while also acting as the talent coordinator for the club and booking the headliners. During this time, he began getting requests from non-comics for help with speaking engagements, presentations, interviews etc. Working one-on-one with these clients, and seeing them achieve both personal and professional triumphs, Tim launched his newest venture, ”Before You Speak”, which he sums up as “Saving the world from tedium, one speaker at a time.”

Tim will show us how to be confident that people will like us, find us interesting, and feel compelled by our message, every time.  Tim's email address is tim@beforeyouspeak.com.

Roundtable

Takes place from 9:45 to 10:30 after the regular meeting and is optional

Beth Myers, SBK Mediation, will be facilitating a discussion titled: “The 8 Key Elements of Lost Productivity Due

to a Conflicted Workplace”

SBK Mediation works with concerned management on the tough stuff - hard numbers, difficult conversations, loss prevention strategies - as it relates to profitability and productivity, by training and facilitating key executive strategic problem solving discussions.

This Round Table discussion will focus on the real cost of unresolved conflict in the workplace, giving participants take away tools for fixing conflict issues. An April 2012 poll discovered that 50% of voluntary employment departures are attributed to unresolved conflict, which largely transpired for 2+ years. The fallout during and afterwards has a critical impact on productivity and ultimately to profitability. This interactive session will be adaptable to the specific environment you or your client is currently dealing with - or should be dealing with.
